On the evening of a dark cold winter night, little Toni was born in the capital city of China. Her adoring parents named her “Cici”.  Her parents had been sweethearts since their teenage years.  They did not know any love other than each other’s.  To little Toni’s parents, this was the beginning of yet another beautiful era.

It was said that when Toni emerged from the womb, she had a full head of hair.  This is considered lucky in Chinese beliefs.  She also had little dimples in the backside of her ear lobes, also considered very lucky.  Things were off to a good start.

After living with her grandmother for 3 years, little Toni came to America.  Living in Brooklyn, New York, she willed herself to learn English in just a few months and soon surpassed all her classmates in academics.  Toni was a spirited tomboy.  She ran around with all the boys playing cops and robbers, never wanting to play house or tea party.
